Claris Teases

Claris recently sent an email linking to a message from the Claris CEO Ryan McCann.

Responding to pressure from the Claris developer community it now seems likely that Claris will add FileMaker features that allow editing of FileMaker scripts using AI tools.

Claris says AI has made writing software much easier, but building reliable business systems still requires deep understanding of workflows, data, security, deployment, and maintenance.

The statement argues that FileMaker developers are well positioned for this shift because their real value has always been solving business problems, not just writing code.

Claris plans to integrate FileMaker with AI coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex so developers can generate interfaces, scripts, and schema changes using AI while still relying on FileMaker’s existing security, database, and deployment capabilities.

The upcoming FileMaker 2026 will add infrastructure improvements and lay the groundwork for AI-assisted “agentic” development.

Exciting Changes at Claris This Year

At a recent webinar, Claris announced that soon:

  • FileMaker Pro will be called Claris Pro

  • FileMaker Go will be called Claris Go

  • FileMaker Server will be called Claris Server

  • A new web development product called Claris Studio will be launched

  • There will be a ‘Freemium’ version of Claris Pro

Claris also announced a promotion called ‘Claris Problem Solvers Circle Program’. Essentially provides qualifying companies with an unlimited 2-year trial of FileMaker for just 30% more than current paying under the company’s existing license.

Help with data.gov.au

There are a large and varied array of datasets available at data.gov.au and much of the data can be very useful for business.

For example, complete ASIC Company lists are there, and a wide range of mapping data amongst the thousands of data files.

You can search for datasets from data.gov.au that might be of interest to you here: data.gov.au/data/dataset

While the data can be very useful, it may not be easy for you to get in in a useful format and connect it to your other business information. Some of the files have millions of records and are not manageable in spreadsheets.
